Will the guitar hero 3 controller for ps2 also work for ps3?

I am deciding whether i want to purchase guitar hero 3 for ps2 or ps3, because i only have a ps3, but I am trying to save money. I guess the question i want answered is: If I bought guitar hero 3 and the guitar controller for a PS2, would both work for a 40GB PS3.

1A PS2 guitar won’t work on the PS3.
You can; however, buy one of these if you really want to use a PS2 guitar.
