Adjusting String Height on an acoustic guitar?

During one of our classes he talked about getting the neck of the guitar adjusted so that the strings are closer to the neck? I was going to take it in to get this adjusted, but wanted more information first! There are 3 things I’m looking for- 1) what exactly I need to be asking them to do 2) How much it will cost 3) how long it will take them. Any information is helpful! Thanks!
