Since you’re comparing apples to oranges, it really doesn’t matter. One is a Fender Strat style, the other a Gibson Les Paul. I don’t like Strats so I bought a Les Paul.
However, the Special II is a highly underrated guitar and I would consider it a great starter guitar, as well as a perfect beater for the more advanced player. Even as I’ve been playing for over 40 years, I bought a used $60 LP Special II and have no qualms about appearing on stage with it right next to my Taylor 812c. The Spec II has the best action and sound for guitars in its price ranges. The neck is a dream!
